Keith 'Munro' Hanson has been creating artworks for over 40 years. Completely self-taught he started with pencils around 5, pastels at age 8, figurative pen and ink at 16, completed his first mural at 17, did his first large abstract in 1993 (pictured left), and has developed a reputation for large free-flowing abstracts with vibrant colours, explosive movements and energetic lines ever since.
Highly creative and possessing an overactive imagination he grew up in the United States and travelled with his parents to almost every major European art gallery by the time he was seven.
Son of a college professor, member of California's MGM (Mentally Gifted Minor) Program, exposure to alternative communities and participant in four enlightenment workshops by age of 16, he often pushes boundaries with metaphorical or figurative representations of motivation, achievement, triumph, determination vs. oppression, tyranny, domination, repression etc, with forays into higher consciousness, spirituality, the cosmos, ancient civilizations, esotericism, and the origins of humanity.
Specializing in wet-on-wet abstract action painting, figurative expressionism, and collages, Munro utilizes mixtures of bright acrylic glosses, contrasting mattes and dazzling metallics melded into symphonic outbursts of free-flowing colours, movements and light which manifest into statement pieces of any interior installation.
In addition to painting, drawing, writing and sculpting Munro has created art for corporate brochures, advertising campaigns, catalogues, flyers, celebratory events, a board game, and digitally for over 60 magazine front covers.

"What I love most about art is the freedom to express myself 'unconditionally uninhibited and unencumbered' from everything. Growing up in a turbulent household art was my escape, my safe place, and the one thing I was allowed free of criticism. Not surprisingly as my abilities and our household chaos grew I found myself creating my own worlds - unique far away environments that I controlled - which is reflected in the early pen & ink drawings I did as a 16-year old, the first large abstract I did in 1993 (pictured upper left), and in the new pieces I create today."
